When the D&RGW changed paint colors, there was often a transition period. When they went from red to gray for MOW, it took a long time for some of the cars to be repainted, some were scrapped before being repainted. It is difficult to know exact dates on repaints as the D&RGW did not keep records of most of that. Painting seems to be more important now than it was then.
