Re: Camping Durango/Silverton

Around Durango I would suggest going to Hesperus ,then north on CR 124 past Mayday to Kroeger Campground . It's shady and small ,and the closest public campground to town . La Plata Canyon is very beautiful . On the east side , on US 160 is a good KOA campground ,only 8 miles from downtown . West of Silverton is the Mineral Creek campground at the end of Forest Road 585 .South of Silverton on 550 is the Little Molas Camground .It has lots of spaces ,trees and views .There are two private campgrounds in Silverton. The best one looks like it on the north side . Remember , This time of year it rains almost every day in the high country ,and we already have had a little snow ,so mornings can be nippy ! Good news is that the weather for the weekend is supposed to be sunny .
