Dennis and Craig - thank you for your comments, and Jerry - thank you for those beautiful photos of 481 with the flanger.
As for narrow gauge happenings after I turned around on December 20 (Iam pretty sure that I covered this before), here is a brief overview:
On December 20, engines 487 and 493 encountered 61 inches of snow at Cumbres, but made it to Chama. On December 22 they returned to Alamosa. On December 23 the freight scheduled from Durango to Chama with 488 and 484 was delayed account some very wet weather in the Durango area. The opposing train from Alamosa was also postponed until after Christmas. By Monday, December 27, Cumbres was snowed-in again, and 487 and 493 made another flanger spreader run to Chama on December 27-28. On Wednesday, December 29. 493 and 498 took a freight from Alamosa to Chama, and 488 and 484 took a freight from Durango to Chama. On Thursday morning, December 30, 498 and 484 left Chama for Durango, and 493 and 488 left for Cumbres. 493 derailed at Windy Point. 488 returned to Chama. 498 and 484 were recalled to Chama.484 and 484 ran to Windy Point, re-railed 493, and the three engines returned to Chama. On Friday, December 31, engines 488 and 484 worked a flanger outfit from Chama to Alamosa. Engines 493 and 498 took the westbound freight from Chama to Durango. A lot of effort on the narrow gauge to keep the freight moving in the winter.
