During the November Commission meeting it was mentioned that Engine #168 had a cracked cylinder saddle. The subsequent Commission meeting thread [
ngdiscussion.net] had a comment by Earl and a further comment by Jeff Taylor about how serious the problem is. Jeff mentioned that "it is cracked at the flange that bolts to the saddle."
Can anyone provide information on how difficult it is to repair and whether the engine is expected to be operable next season. Also, what is the status of the melted ash grates; have they been recast or replaced?
I made a reservation to ride behind #168 last August and needed to cancel one due to my having Covid and the RR canceled the second due to the grate problem. I'm looking to book a Antonito to Cumbres trip on the historic consist dinner trip if it runs next summer.
