While you're thinking of the famed 'Sleeping Ute Mountain' near Cortez, the mountain in the shot is another shield volcano at the southern end of the San Luis Valley
except, it's on the other side of the Rio Grande.
Here's a picture showing the angle at which the photo was shot, with a Sigma 150-600mm at a length of 390 MM...
We were perched near MP 305 on the spit of land south of the gravel pile horseshoe east of Sublette looking at the big cut at MP 301.2
