Scott can add more if he wants. What I know is that it is cracked at the flange that bolts to the saddle. 168 has a different cylinder design than some locomotives that recieved new cylinders later in their career like 340 or RGS 41. 346 has the older design as well. This older version only has the flange on the sides of the saddle just above the valves. Whereas the newer design has the flange all the way around, like 340, and 41. The flange going all the way around probably came about from cracks like 168 has, alot of forces placed on the saddle, frame and smoke box connection.
