Be a pretty safe bet, I think, to assume so. Photography by then wasn't so novel as it was in the 1870's but it was still something that tended to attract notice. Still had work to do, though, and by the 40's the 19th century-style very clearly staged shots were somewhat out of fashion. The "engineer oiling the engine" picture seems to be something of a 1930's/40's fad--I see a *lot* of that type of photograph from that period. I have a few such in my own collection for that matter.
