As Jim said, I was in the cab of #3 tending the fire. This operation was on the fill just below our Highway 7 crossing, so we soon had spectators stopped out on the highway. Some of them ventured along the track to get photos. One really nice guy came up to the cab, with eyes like dinner plates and a trail of foam. We quickly struck up a conversation. He was from Colorado and was traveling around the Pacific Northwest looking for railroad stuff. When he drove up on our scene, he was not expecting to see 3ft. gauge track crossing the highway and though he had heard of the historic Sumpter Valley Ry. was unaware that we were an operating railroad in the modern day. I invited him up into the cab while we made a short move. I believe it truly made his day, and I bet was one of the high points of his travels, discovering a narrow gauge Heisler powered work train in service.
