I was there just a few weeks ago and had a wonderful time!
You can't appreciate the size of their new 8 stall roundhouse until you see it in person. It now allows the museum to keep almost all their equipment under cover during the winter. Plans are being formulated to redress under-cover storage for the balance of their collection. The Maplewood station restoration is in a very advanced state. The coach #18 restoration continues. All the boxcars are up on at least shop trucks. Steam outline, gas mechanical #4 is in its best operating condition in years.
The progress at the SR&RL museum has been marked, especially over the past 10 years . Despite the fact that Phillips, Maine is a fairly remote location and the volunteer base in the surrounding area commensurately low, these guys just won't quit! God bless 'em!!!!
For more info, you can check the museum's web page at the attached URL and for continuing updates, to can check out my "Backshop" column in "Maine Two Foot Quarterly" magazine. (URL:www.maine2footquarterly.com)
