I understand that Dick Harrison volunteered at SVRR in the early days of the organization and that he had worked for the West Side Lbr. Co. in its last years. One of our members bought or traded many years ago, for about 120 photo prints that Mr. Harrison had taken on the SP narrow gauge, West Side, and DRGW narrow gauge. This set of prints was recently donated to our archive. Our SVRR Archive primarily holds business records, small to medium size objects, maps and articles pertaining to the old Sumpter Valley Ry. and associated lumber companies. Mount Hood Railroad is also included as it was sister company, that had the same ownership for many years. We also have quite a few records and photos for the Central Railroad of Oregon, and a bit of UP in N.E. Or. Our archives holds thousands of photos on our core subjects, but also has some collections that are outside our primary scope such as these Harrison shots. Our archive is also the custodian of a book collection of over 2500 items. In terms of size, with the book collection we are at 1840 lines in an Excel spread sheet that is our accession record, and at over 202 cu. ft. Our SVRR Archive is presently housed at a building my wife and I own here in Enterprise, Or. The Archive and book collection belongs to Sumpter Valley Railroad Restoration, Inc. which is a non-profit 501-3c better known for operating trains in the the Sumpter Valley. We are in the early stage of constructing a building at our McEwen railroad yard to house the archive and book collection. Donations toward the building project are very welcome. As to how things come into our archive, it is mainly by donation, that is by people sending us items appropriate for our collection. Some of our members have been generous enough to purchase items from Ebay or swap meets that they then donate. We also take in donations of books and other railroadiana that we can sell to benefit our archive project. Here is a link to our organization's web site: [www.sumptervalleyrailroad.org]
