So now we can worry about floods washig out the railroad. When i was spending a lot of time on the C&TS back around 2000, I remember all the scars on the hillsides between Antonito and Sublete where Max Pacheco, Marvin ane their crews has used big yellow machinery to quickly create berms and scour channels to divert flood waters away from the railroad. I was told the three secrets to good track were drainage, drainage and drainage. Kind of like farming, either too little rain or too much rain. I suspect there are some folks here who might be able elaborate on all that.
