Alpine Tunnel: High point on the section of Denver, South Park & Pacific (later Denver, Leadville & Gunnison then Colorado & Southern) 3' gauge line between Buena Vista to Gunnison. Tunnel completed December 1881, line operated 1882-1889, 1896-1910.

Palisades: Sheer, high rock wall the Alpine Tunnel line skirts on the West side of the Divide. Line was on a Rock retaining wall built 1881-82. Now a dirt road, wall was damaged by a rock slide/falling rocks several years ago, closing the road.

Historic site, much used in advertising back in the day.
