In support of which, I humbly (re-)submit this JBWX photo from September, 1961, with somewhat enhanced contrast in my interpretation of the Adams style:

IMHO, had the above been taken on an 8"×10" negative instead of (presumably) 35mm it would rival any of Adams' photos of the Sierra Nevada.
