I'd like to say that the answer is to simply to use good judgement. The problem with that is some folks work better with black and white rules, but that is difficult here. This group exists to talk about whatever the posters and the mods are interested in. But if left wide open the focus is destroyed that makes this group different from most others....narrow gauge....and attracts many if not most of our posters. There are a lot of other discussion groups about railroads in general and steam engines, but at the same time most folks interestied in narrow gauge railroads are also interested in steam engines of any gauge. That creates a gray area for us that is difficult to write useful rules for. So we are back to judgement. Actually, this place has done very well with the judgement thing for a long time. Most of the discussion is about narrow gauge, but occasionally some standard gauge posts crop up but that diversion is often both interesting and brief. I probably go back farther with Don and this board than anyone still around, and while Don probably would have stated it differently, he most likely would agree with the gist of the above.
