Here’s the second group of slides. This one is labeled as being the first bridge in the canyon. Not being familiar with the geography I can’t guarantee these are in chronological order. As Hank says, feel free to correct or add to any of the information.
A classic shot of that RMRRC drumhead in arguably one of the most iconic D&RGW locations. Perhaps second only to the Royal Gorge.
The next shot is approaching the bridge at Crystal Creek.
Then the train has let everyone off and reversed for a run past at what’s labelled bridge No. 23. Is this the same bridge as the previous photo? (Edit - yes) And is it the one where 278 is displayed today????? (Edit - no)
Last slide is labelled as Cimarron Creek, which I gather is the little side canyon that the railway used to leave the main canyon.
There were other similar photos taken in the canyon but none in the collection showing the destination of Cimarron itself. As Jack’s collection was disbursed, perhaps there’s someone out there who has the slides for the continuation of this trip.
As mentioned, feel free to let us know any corrections to the locations or other information, and Phil will update his records.
Cheers,
Ralph
