Re: NNG/NG? EMD G8 LOCOMOTIVE PROJECT COLORADO

EMD G-8 model indicates this is powered by an EMD two-stroke roots-blown 567 V-8 in the 800-900 traction hp range almost exclusively for export markets. These were in fact potentially a narrow gage design. They had the restricted clearance and weight and EMD did have a meter gage plus traction motor. Era would be mid1950s to mid 1960s until replaced by the 645 powered G-18 line at 1000 hp.

IIRC this was originally purchased for light rail in Canada and looks to have been built with an unpowered idler axle in the center of each truck.

The GA-8 was a related model. Same engine and generator but two traction motors each driving a modified freight car truck through drive shafts. CyZ, NdeM and IRCA (El Salvador) had the 36” gage versions of these though they were built in almost every gage 36" to broad.

Definitely not the smallest EMD but definitely the lower end of the scale.
