For a long time Heisler used 75% of b.p. in computing the t.e., then they started using 85% like the competition.
When they did that, the t.e. on the 90 ton West Coast Special was published at something around 49.000 lbs. Wow.
I can't help but wonder just how the pictured machine here would have compared against those miserable little Shays on the Uintah.
It sure seems like nobody between the Uintah and Lima had much imagination when supplying them with 2T models.
If ever a line screamed for the application of superheat, it was the Uintah with its miles and miles of sustained grades.
A push for a somewhat heavier superheated 2T Shay that also had more heating surface and bigger cylinders would
have helped.
