D&RGW passenger car colours

I am confused (nothing new there)...
The D&RGW along with many other railroads painted their passenger cars a shade of green (Pullman or otherwise). Then after the Chicago railroad fair they started painting them in Grande Gold (which though it sounds ghastly - especially yellow steam locos - actually looks quite good IMHO).
Now I occasionaly find reference to RED cars. Can someone enlighten me as to the use of red (boxcar red or another shade) on D&RGW cars please?
