All good points in this discussion. Any kind of functional barn would pay off, in both preservation of equipment in fair condition, and prevention of decay in restored equipment. Some museums with outdoor equipment have done fine restorations, but today have the pieces looking worse than when they arrived!
I would vote for equipment barns at both ends of the line. Perhaps there is some vacant land in west Chama that can be passed by trains heading toward Gato ;]
