The tall, wood sided cars were used for hauling hog fuel to the mill and power plant at South Baker. They were loaded from a chute at the up country saw mills, but unloaded by hand through a side door. The slab wood cars were loaded and unloaded by hand, as were the lumber cars. Unskilled labor was cheap and plentiful in those days.
