This winter time crew shot on the Sumpter Valley Ry. (SVRy) is remarkable because of the obvious caboose number. Caboose #2 was, so far as we know the only side door caboose used on the Sumpter Valley and very few photos of it are known. The AFE material indicates that it was on roster prior to valuation and that it was built by SVRy. #2 was retired in August of 1934. Meanwhile, SVRy cabooses #3, #5 and #6 have survived and are at SVRR today, which is 50%. Not a bad survival rate for a railroad that was mostly abandoned 74 years ago. The scan is from the SVRR Archive.
