It seems highly unlikely to me that molybdenum was loaded directly into box cars. When I worked at Climax in the summer of 1966, moly was shipped out in box cars, contained in steel drums, headed to the refinery in New York state. I think the stuff is of a sand consistency and far too valuable to be loaded uncontained. One of my more enjoyable experiences at Climax was being assigned to unload boxcars of empty drums. When the train came up from Leadville and started switching I couldn't be in working in a box car. So the best thing to do was to ride around on the engine until the car shuffling operations were complete and I could get back to moving drums. That summer the mill was processing 50,000 tons of ore per day. The moly product went out in 4 box cars per day.
