Sumpter Valley Ry. Baker Depot

In its hay-day the Sumpter Valley Ry. extended just over 80 miles between Baker and Prairie City, Oregon. While so much of the railroad's infrastructure has disappeared, the depots at both ends of the line survive today. In Prairie City, the 2 story depot is today the DeWitt Museum. This photo was taken in 1993 of the Baker depot. It was used for many years as offices for Ellingson Lbr. Co. which was nearby. After this photo was taken, the depot became the subject of a major restoration effort. It was moved to a new location on the opposite side of the UP mainline and today houses a few offices which includes the UP MOW department. The scan is from the SVRR Archive.
