The website of the San Juan Historical Society in Silverton has a section on the Mears passes. They came in many forms and are quite a story. [www.sanjuancountyhistoricalsociety.org] It includes an up to date master list of all the known passes.

There is also a great little book by William K Strong called “The Remarkable Railroad Passes of Otto Mears”. It contained inserted updates of known passes as it was reprinted over the years. You will note on the website link that Bill Strong passed away in February of this year.

So congrats for having one on display in Ridgway, and also note I’ve seen them in the D&SNG roundhouse museum as well.

Cheers,
Ralph
