In rotating through our photo files to share on Facebook and on this site, next up is this shot of SVRy caboose #6. I recently shared color shots that I took of #6 taken last month. John Lewis donated this view of Sumpter Valley Ry caboose #6 to our SVRR Archive. The original shot was taken by Al Farrow on June 24th 1946. #6 was constructed in the South Baker car shop in Feb. of 1917 under AFE 26. The "build" date painted on the side is actually a rebuild which occurred in late 1925. The reason why and eight year old caboose would need a rebuild can only be the subject of speculation. Mine would be that it was damaged in a wreck or derailment of sufficient magnitude to require an extensive rebuild. #6 was retired in June of 1947 under AFE 616. #6 today is at SVRR's McEwen yard and is undergoing repairs that will eventually return it to service.
