In 1969 I drove around Park City . Like most Rocky mountain ski resorts at the time , it was just getting started . The UP still trains ran up its beautiful depot ,under a huge mine tipple . Though the D&RGW departed in 1946 , the UP handled some old customers for a couple of years afterward . The old D&RG yard was still in place ,with aspens and willows almost hiding the trackage and switches . I remember it was very atmospheric . A mile of the D&RG was still spiked down to another tipple ,though it had been decades since the last train movement there . Above town there were more grades . All fascinating ,but we had to push on in our adventures .Incredibly I don't remember taking any photos on that day ! Years later I visited the district ,and was very sad to see Park City unrecognizable ,its dusty charm now all polished and upscale . Like other Rocky Mountain towns ,it went from quiet decay to big money ,big cars , big development, lots of asphalt and celebrities . Ah ,old age !
