484 is whistling for the grade crossing over the US Forest Service road that goes south along Apache Creek.
Going through the crossing; anyone recognize these railfans in the red car?
At Los Pinos tank, a mobile barbecue has been set up and the grill is hot for the lunch stop. This seems early compared with the modern Osier eating house, but there have already been two stops before getting here.
While 484 idles next to the water tank, dark spots are visible in sky. These are not dirt on the slide but are the swallows that nest in the eaves of the tank. Other photos show scores of them swooping around getting bugs.
The lunch buffet line; the Chama boy scout troop has been “volunteered” to serve lunch. Scary thought of the day—these scouts are all in their ‘60s now.
