Oops!
I forgot to add that these parts (as well as several others) were provided to us by the Colorado Railroad Museum. These same parts can be found on D&RG caboose 42 on display at the museum as well as C&S caboose 1009 (a close relative of 1008) which has been modified to use coil springs to make room for the brake cylinder and reservoir, also at the museum. I believe a Silverton Northern caboose on display in Silverton also has a set of these journals and pedestals also from the CRRM.
The most complete of the remaining C&S “Bobbers” is number 1006 currently undergoing restoration In Silver Plume, CO. She actually has her original journal boxes, wheels/axels, and brake gear.
The museum has done a great service to the preservation community by making these parts available, and while not original to the cars they are very close in appearance and function.
