Just a big thanks to all who replied to this thread - in particular to Jerry Day who went out of his way to take some shots of 6531 for me, and to Dick Bell who also provided some great shots.
This is how the final build came up:
I wasn't about to scratch build the excavator (the one in Jerry's shot that inspired me is, I believe, a 160LC) but the 200LC in the shot is from the same time frame.
Lettering is not spot on as I won't be getting to Colorado any time soon, and I would have had to get custom decals made up - not pretending to be a museum quality model but I'm reasonably satisfied with the build given the circumstances.
And a close up of the ramps and the slide-out hard coupler:
No K28 to attach to it I'm afraid - I don't model the D&RGW or the D&SNG and was only attracted to do this build having seen the car as I passed it on the way to Silverton on the train back in 2017, and then by Jerry's shot.
