Actually, Chile John, I'd describe the scene in the Chama yard on Monday morning as a lot like Lambeau Field during deer season in Wisconsin. But with hard hats in place of cheeseheads.
In truth, however, Friends Director Nan Clark (one of several key organizers of the project) specified the color for safety reasons. With a hundred volunteers out on the line, visibility becomes essential, given the speeder and work train traffic anticipated this week.
As I told the volunteers during the Monday morning safety meeting, this project may well represent the largest single workforce deployed along the right-of-way since the D&RG first put laid track over Cumbres Pass in 1880.
The support the Friends of the C&TS is receiving from the railroad staff and the community has been outstanding. And we deeply appreciate it.
