Thanks, Graham. Well, the Niles Canyon Railroad and the Southern Pacific before it were not ng. but it IS steam. AND the Niles Canyon line is HUGELY historic as the western end of the very first transcontinental railroad, connecting Sacramento with San Francisco Bay. The Niles Canyon Railroad/Pacific Locomotive Association folks have done an incredible job of restoring this abandoned SP line, through a very scenic canyon. And the restoration of the SP1744 (of San Luis and Rio Grande fame) will for the first time give them their own locomotive native to the line. I suppose there is a narrow gauge connection, this was my first photo charter since the marvelous rotary trip on the C&TS about a year ago, and then the pandemic set in.
