My observation in the statement that green was the factory color of the restorers of 470 is based by the first layer of paint in their analysis. I think that is misguided as when you think that by the time 470 was sold the C&NW is most likely had one or two re-paint Pullman standard finish and varnishings. Problems with multiple layers of varnish is that it tends to crack. A common solution at that time and to remedy this was to burn off all the layers of paint/varnsh with a torch. If needed from wood charring from a torch, fresh, bare wood could be exposed or preped for new paint using a hand plane. This was most likely done at the Denver Pullman Palace Car passenger car shop that was leased from the Union Pacific as they most likely retrofited this and the other tourist sleepers to coaches for the Colorado & North Western. The D&RG practice might would have just to re-side a car with new wood if it had bad cracking as opposed to burning off cracked paint that was a Pullman and eastern American railroad practice c1900. The method of this practice of burning of paint can be read multiple times from the results of a search on Google Books. A example of this subject can be read from article from that era on the link
"Burning Off".
In my minority opinion the fact that this car is green with new beautiful paint job and to save face it would look great for awhile would it not be appropriate to have C&NW lettering with their multicolor logo if it is decided to not repaint this car in the well documented pre 1900 Pullman standard color with the standard multicolor trimmings and components. I have also found a exposed sample on the underbody sheathing of the brown Pullman Color on the Tourist Pullman car body that became D&RGW 0250 at CRRM in Golden. As we know 470 and 0250 came from the same lot and batch from PPC, Pullman, Il.
