yes, indeed. I think it's basically a subsidized service to support this region. It's still offered in winter (see https://www.matterhorngotthardbahn.ch/en/winter/journey/car-transport/oberalp/). It's quite cheap (1 CHF ~ 0.95 US$):

Type of vehicle Price per trip (CHF)
Passenger cars up to a max. 3.5 t 65.00
Transport trailers up to a max. 3.5 t 35.00

But I believe the service will stop in 2023...
