On the successful attempt to get all the way, or as on one attempt to get to the upper level and having to turn back because there was a steep snowbank which ran to the edge of the grade, we were able to drive to Quartz before having to put on the skis. Like I said earlier we were able to make good time going upgrade due to a packed track left by a snowmobile and used the skis on the return trip. An early start was possible because we were able to spend the night before at the Pitkin Hotel. Needless to say we didn't arrive back in Pitkin until after sunset. Thinking back on it I would guess about ten hours. We made several attempts from Ray Moretz's store in Pitkin but could only make it as far as Midway Tank on those occasions.

When I say 'we'....there was always one or more who would go with me. Needless to say it was always different people who went each time. Seems I was the only crazy 'DSP&P Nut' who felt the need to do it.
