I just noticed a mental short circuit that had me label the date of 483's run into Durango as May 11, 1966 when it should have been August 11, 1966. I made the correction on the original post. Just for background that will be covered in a sparate thread, 483 had made the first run to Farmington in more than 7 weeks the day before with the completion of repair work on a sagging fill. With a long train of empties (70 plus cars), and serious weed growth on the road bed, the 483 crew ran out of time near Posta, and ran light engine to Durango. Returning on August 11, 483 took half of the train to Carbon Junction, then returned to Posta for the rest of the train, taking it into Durango as the Carbon Junction siding was filled, hence the string of empties heading into the Durango yard in the photo.
