I have run all the C&TS K-36's via Engineer School over the last 8 years and there is a DEFINITE difference in their operation. Primarily, the ease and response of the throttle. Also, the brake stands are quite different depending on the wear of the notches which can easily slip into emergency of you are not careful. Favorite is 489 with 487 a close second. They are all great engines, but can't comment on the firing except to say that with a good, well-balanced fire, they all steam great
