Note at least two major differences from the final design — the non-hinged steps with rigid handrails, and the lengthwise benches in lieu of plastic seats.
Note also the smoke emanating from #487's stack. SFAIK, she did not pull any trains during 1971, but according to the dates on Ernie's meticulously annotated slides she was fired up on at least two occasions in May of that year. This shot, three frames later on the same roll from 05/16/71, shows a bit more smoke but does not confirm that #487 moved under her own power that day
