I had the same thought, Mike -
Which seems especially odd since the second one is labeled as a K-3
7 cistern, which I thought were much shorter and wider standard-gauge 2-8-0 tenders converted to narrow gauge by moving the wheels in by 10¼" on each side. (Did this require new axles, or just turning the old ones?) I assume that the K-3
6 locos are a bit longer than the K-28s, so Baldwin made the new tenders a bit shorter so they would fit on the existing turntables, and a bit wider to maintain the same 5,000 gallon capacity.
- Sincerely,
Willie (Wm. Claude Johnson-Barr III, Esq.)
