This thread has long since drifted WAY far away from its original topic, though nowhere near the average drift of NGDF threads and its mode seems to have drifted most of the way back, so I figure it's as good a place as any to share a favorite memory from several years ago. At least this one involves a railroad mentioned in the root post
. . . Ex-S.P. #4449 was never narrow gauge nor was her tender ever painted with a rectangle of D&RGW Moffat Green dark olive boiler jacket enamel upon which the name UNION PACIFIC was emblazoned. But IMHO seldom has she looked better than 45 years ago this morning when she passed through Ogden, Utah via said Union Pacific Railroad on her way to Salt Lake City, brightly painted and freshly washed (including having her running gear thoroughly steam-cleaned by yores troolie the day before) on a beautiful early-autumn day
