Thanks for asking, I see I failed to make it clear myself. Brevity has its weaknesses sometimes. I compare it to the world we know today--hospitals then were essentially places people went to die. What they called "care" we might call the stuff of horror movies. In-era I know no reason why it wouldn't have been regarded as a perfectly decent hospital. Whichever point of reference the reader prefers, we know as a matter of history the sort of treatments that were available and utilized back then.
