The cars they had picked out to take up the hill had terrible brake shoes, they where all worn down. The caboose had air brake problems after the first crossing, had to drop one car at laboto siding, had to wait for the passenger train to come by, then they proceeded forward to the top of the hill got to cumbres pass by 5:10 had problems with the brakes again, then by 6:00 they headed back down the hill got into town about 7:30 went to go turn the train around at the wye an they put the caboose on the ground and had to disassemble the train in the dark and left all the cars at the wye, next morning they showed them how to re-rail a car and did that put the train together added more cars and later that day everything went as smooth as glass
