Not to contradict Kelly, smiling smiley but there are automatically controlled steam boilers, and some of those are even installed in railroad locomotives. grinning smiley


For instance, early in the diesel era, when passenger cars were still steam-heated, some locomotives had steam generators to provide steam heat to the passenger cars that previously had received steam from the steam locomotive.

Of course, the steam pressures involved in such a boiler are not as high as those in an operating steam locomotive boiler.
