Re: D&RG Early Passenger Car Colors

Before 1900 Pullman did not use green, their paint was usually "Pullman Color" which was the same (or similar, since chemical compositions have changed in paint manufacturing since then) color as UPS trucks (UPS has trademarked their mix as "Pullman Brown"). The founders of UPS copied the old Pullman color because they recognized that it looked pleasing while hiding road grime.

In my limited research, it seems that the cars were Tuscan even with the pinstriping and filigree. The one exception was the Rio Grande Western (the standard gauge Utah Portion) which switched from Tuscan to brown around 1900 because somebody in management liked the Oregon Short Line's passenger scheme and decided to deviate from their Colorado counterparts.
