Plus the expense of the tools. Most of them are pretty inexpensive hand tools. But a good soldering iron, airbrush, etc... and you're getting into more than the brass locomotive kit cost. Plus it's a steep learning curve to solder brass cars and engines together, even if you're already good at soldering, brazing and welding larger things.

I laughed. For me it was the rolling stock and track that cost the big bucks.
