My story is much less interesting but definitely different. While stationed at Griffiss AFB as an F-106 pilot, I was able to schedule a spare bird for a weekend and flew to Colorado Springs with a short detour that allowed me to overfly the Silverton line. Upon landing, I rented a VW Bug and headed to Denver for the Narrow Gauge Convention. During the weekend, I was able to get over to Golden and was introduced to narrow gauge in the flesh. And back at the convention, I won the long distance travel award - even though Uncle Sam paid for the gas. That weekend really kickstarted my love affair with the Colorado Narrow Gauge.
