... or perhaps # 40 & 44 could look good sitting next to #279 since CHS seems to believe there's locomotives that might be better for their land (negotiations between GLR & CHS remain stalled).
Besides - what could be historical about old # 40? ... the most well travelled 36" gauge (perhaps overall) steam locomotive. No historical society could boast about a locomotive that was built in Philedelphia, operated in Guatemala & El Salvador, operated in Central City, operated between Silver Plume & Georgetown, rebuilt & ran in Durango (one run), celebrated WP&Y's centennial (also heaviest load ever to go across the Alaska highway), operated at Colorado Railroad Museum, and is back for one more year at the Loop. This locomotive has pounded steam on both sides of the equator and has worked more railroads than any other locomotive that I can think of. To think that she even went right through SVR country (on a truck) and they didn't even have her make a guest spot! Yeah ... not much history about # 40 to boast about. Maybe the next town she's in will appreciate her more, but my vote is for # 40 to keep home on the Loop (not happening w/ CHS current perspective).
I'm stepping off my box now.
