Hi Timothy. I forget, did we figure your visit was a couple weeks before or after ours. #73 was just being prepared for removal from Bennett when we were there, and I think you had posted a photo that it was possibly in Whitehorse by the time of your visit?
Also Dick and Timothy, thanks for pointing out that the old boxcar at Mile 62.9 - McDonald Creek, was originally C&S. I hadn’t realized its parentage, but I see on the Wikipedia roster it’s a combination of the body from C&S 8309 and the frame of C&S 8392. Apparently it had just been placed there the year before our visit, as the trucks were only detached in 1978.
I also see in the roster (wow, is it complete.[
en.m.wikipedia.org]) that there are still a few other C&S boxcar bodies floating around Skagway back alleys etc, and that the Boreas Pass/Como boxcar came from there. If not practical to move any of them down south, I wonder if the Como folks could use some of the hardware if any of it is original. And better still if there’s any C&S trucks kicking around the Skagway yard.
Cheers,
Ralph
