Depends ...

I have seen all kinds in cars .Most clerestory glass in the San Juan cars , if not all , is clear .A closer look in some older cars reveals a long-gone craftmanship of the old builders . Many cars had laminated glass ,some was red ,some green and some blue . There colored pieces were hand cut with designs , exposing the clear glass and the design to light . Beautiful ! I saw two examples .One was being removed by a carman back in 1981 when the D&S was rebuilding outfit car 0270 for service .The other is still in RGS B-20 at Knott's . Some clerestory glass had sandblasted or cast designs in them as well .
