Hi Brian, yep, place names are fascinating. TG&B locomotives were all named after either railway backers, or towns and townships along the way. The little 4-4-0 “Kincardine” and 4-6-0 “Mono” were actually a couple exceptions, being places where the railway didn’t end up running. Mono Township is also a ski area to the north of Toronto. There are quite a few theories of the name’s origin, but the most plausible is the similar Gaelic word for hilly or hilly pasture. Quite appropriate for those who know the area.
Cheers,
Ralph
