Just about, indeed, Olaf -
Even closer to perfect, IMHO, is when good ol' Kodachrome's weakness in rendering green is attacked by PhotoShop Elements 10's "Autofix" feature
:
. . . and then the overall warmth corrected by using the mid-tone "Levels" tool to get the smokebox to a neutral gray. IMHO, the sky looks more realistic as well

IMHO, even these quick-and-dirty fixes – less than 5 minutes each – also help the second photo. First AutoFix at 100%
:
. . . and then the overall magenta tone corrected by again using "Levels" to adjust the smokebox to a neutral grey

I'm just an amateur playing with the poor-man's PS Elements 10 that came free with a flatbed scanner years ago.* Imagine what a pro like Scott Turner could do using full-on PhotoShop (or LightRoom), especially if he could start with a fresh scan from the original slide!!

* I tried Elements 13, and didn't like it AT ALL. IIRC, it was a bit of a pain to completely remove E-13 and re-install E-10, but I'm glad I did it. (I think Adobe started deliberately weakening Elements by removing features because it was cutting into their sales of full-on PhotoShop.)
